The church overlooks the harbor. It was built in 1892 as a Methodist church. In 1960, it was dedicated as a Catholic church and became the only private Catholic congregation in America.

Short answer: a very lucky owner! Longer answer: the Tarte family. This is a common question. We did some research to find out who owns Roche Harbor Resort and the surrounding land. In 1787, Captain Lopez de Haro became the first Europeans to sail through the San Juan Islands. Recognize that name? It's his name on the hotel, the Hotel de Haro. You'll notice it in most every wedding photo from Roche Harbor Resort weddings. Katie and Stefan decided to place their altar in front of the hotel so the namesake would be visible in their wedding pictures. The Tarte family bought Roche Harbor Resort in 1956 along with 4,000 acres and 12 miles of coastline.
