There is a famous chapel called the Roche Harbor Resort Church. Katie and Stefan decided to get married in the garden outside the hotel. However, some couples prefer to get married in the church. The church overlooks the harbor. It was built in 1892 as a Methodist church. In 1960, it was dedicated as a Catholic church and became the only private Catholic congregation in America.

Friday Harbor is a delightful town located on San Juan Island. It's the main ferry terminal on the island. As a result, the small downtown district features shops, restaurants and lodging. There are wonderful B&Bs! It's also a great area for a Friday Harbor wedding. There are plenty of interesting and unique wedding venues on the island. Roche Harbor Resort weddings are definitely the most famous and desirable as a destination resort.  Friday Harbor is known as the gateway to the San Juan Islands.

San Juan Island wedding venues feel like a world away from Seattle. At the same time, they're so close and accessible. You can reach the island by ferry or private plane. Roche Harbor Resort weddings feel grand and elegant. Maybe you prefer a venue that's more rustic and low-key? The San Juan Island Visitors Bureau has an extensive guide to places to get married. Short answer: a very lucky owner! Longer answer: the Tarte family. This is a common question. We did some research to find out who owns Roche Harbor Resort and the surrounding land. In 1787, Captain Lopez de Haro became the first Europeans to sail through the San Juan Islands. Recognize that name? It's his name on the hotel, the Hotel de Haro. You'll notice it in most every wedding photo from Roche Harbor Resort weddings. Katie and Stefan decided to place their altar in front of the hotel so the namesake would be visible in their wedding pictures. The Tarte family bought Roche Harbor Resort in 1956 along with 4,000 acres and 12 miles of coastline.
