The Berkeley Botanical Garden is a thirty-four acre botanical garden inside the city of Oakland in California, located in the Strawberry Canyon. It is just under a thirty minute drive from San Francisco, CA. This garden in particular boasts one of the most diverse landscapes in the world! There are over ten thousand plants housed here, including very rare and endangered species of plants.

Kristina and Kevin picked a beautiful time of the year to visit the Berkeley Botanical Garden. Having their engagement photoshoot in the fall meant that they were surrounded by golden and amber leaves. Before planning a visit to the Berkeley Botanical Garden, you can visit their “What’s in Bloom” section of their webpage to find out what blossoms you can pose with. Kristina and Kevin dressed in neutral tones for their engagement photos. Kristina wore a cream colored sweater dress with a turtleneck, dark stockings, and grey booties. Aditionally, Kevin wore khaki pants, a white button down, a grey cardigan, and tan shoes. These two shared a lot of smiles and laughter throughout their shoot. 

The Berkeley Botanical Garden provides a lot of opportunities for couples to interact with a natural landscape. Kristina and Kevin posed seated on a bench, in an open field, framed by an archway, leaning against a fence, and among the many trees and branches. As a result of choosing a location with so many built-in props, it can help put couples at ease.There are so many unique gardens to choose from. This includes, Asia, Australian, Desert, Herb, Mediterranean, and South American! Our team at Sound Originals really enjoyed our time spent with Kristina & Kevin’s at the Berkeley Botanical Garden.

Berkeley Botanical Garden Wedding

If you can’t get enough of the Berkeley Botanical Gardens, or if you are an outdoors enthusiast in general, then you might want to have your wedding here. The botanical garden offers both indoor and outdoor wedding venues. The outdoor venue consists of an amphitheater surrounded by a grove of towering redwoods. The indoor venue and hall is a historic 1911 building that has been updated with modern amenities like a gas fireplace, air conditioning, and a twenty foot deck. The botanical garden can host a range of capacities, starting at elopements of twelve people and micro weddings of twenty-five people, to an end capacity of two hundred individuals in the redwood grove. The size of your wedding and the day and time of your wedding all impact the cost of your ceremony and/or reception. You can find a full breakdown of updated prices on their website.

UC Berkeley Botanical Garden

The University of California’s Botanical Garden was established in 1890 on the university’s central campus. The University considers the botanical garden to be a “living museum.” The botanical garden has docents who lead garden tours on the weekend. If you are visiting the Berkeley area then you won’t want to miss the botanical garden. Trip Advisor ranks this destination number two on the list of things to do in the area. With nearly five hundred individual reviews of the gardens, it maintains a four and a half star rating out of five stars.

Berkeley Botanical Garden Cost

At present, reservations are required to enter the botanical garden. They are closed on the first and third Thursday of each month. Children get in free to the garden, and others pay a fee ranging from three to fifteen dollars depending on the guests age. The botanical garden provides a beautiful and detailed map of the property. Aditionally, they have a dedicated page of visitor guidelines. They recommend that you plan to visit for two hours. You can rent a venue at the botanical garden and that will vary in price depending on your reason for renting. During the daytime they offer two-hour outdoor memorial rentals. In addition, they have a memorial package for up to four hours. The cost of a wedding rental here can range from $1,400 to $7,800.
